The Application Process
You can apply using the application form downloadable from this site. Please see the Acceptance Standards set out below.
Applications should be returned as soon as possible, enclosing a Registration Fee of £60 per week – which is non-refundable under any circumstances if you are accepted on the Summer School. Registration fees paid for unsuccessful applications will be returned or refunded. Full fees may be paid on registration. The balance of the fees (less registration fee) must be paid on or before 1 May 2010.
Any registration applications submitted after 1 May must be accompanied by payment of the full fees.
Please enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope and a full-length photograph in practice clothes in the first Arabesque. Applications are accepted up to commencement of the Summer School. However places are limited and therefore it is advisable to apply as soon as possible.
All applicants will be notified by mid April 2010 as to whether the application has been successful. Once you have been accepted, there will be no further communication. Thereafter, please check the website for any further information which you may require.
Students and teachers may apply for one week or two weeks at the Summer School. In the event of numbers exceeding the quota for any week you may be asked to change your booking to an alternative week.
Students must accept their placement in respective classes. Class allocations are made once all applications have been processed and will not be communicated until arrival at the Summer School. Yorkshire Ballet Summer School reserves the right to retain all or part of the Summer School fees in the event of the applicant’s withdrawal.
Overseas students not paying by draft in sterling drawn on a UK bank will be charged a £10 handling charge. Please add £10 to your payment.
Acceptance Standards
Students must have passed their 10th birthday and not be more than 21 years of age. Senior students must be preparing for or have taken their Elementary Exams or equivalent. Junior students should have passed their Grade 4 Examination or equivalent. All students should obtain their teacher’s permission to attend the Summer School.
Accommodation
Accommodation is at York St John University and is in single rooms apart from 10 double rooms reserved for younger students. All bed linen is provided, but everyone should make his/her own bed and provide soap and towels. Students in residence will be under the supervision of specially appointed staff.
The Summer School schedule and rules will be on the notice board at York St John University on the day of commencement. The rules of the Summer School must be strictly observed.
Clothing
All students normal practice wear and ballet shoes.
Girls: black or dark leotards, pink tights (if possible). Girls are expected to bring Pointe shoes with them.
Boys: black or grey tights.
Senior Students Contemporary for Ballet with Christopher Tudor: Clothing as above with bare feet.
Junior Students Baroque Dance classes: If possible, please bring jazz/character shoes and track bottoms or character skirt.
Please name-tag all your personal property to prevent loss.
Arrival
The Car Park at York St John is limited, but there is parking nearby.
Residents should arrive between 2pm and 4pm on the Saturday according to their booking and may leave on Friday afternoon from 5pm onwards, or remain until 11am Saturday morning.
Non-residents should attend a talk given by the director on Saturday at 4:30pm, otherwise assemble at 9am on Sunday (There are no classes on Saturdays.)

By road: York is 211 miles from London via the M1 and A64. From the North, you can enter York via either the A1 & A59 (Green Hammerton) or the A19 (Thirsk).
Directions for York St John University: The College is located on Lord Mayor’s Walk, near its junction with Gilly Gate and Clarence Street. Lord Mayor’s Walk forms part of the Inner Ring Road. College entrance is on Clarence Street.
By rail: is a major stopping point on the London to Edinburgh line.
House persons
The Summer School has experienced House Mothers and Fathers, who are all CRB police-checked and on duty 24 hours a day.
Student’s money
The students do not need to bring money with them, but may bring a little spending money should they go in to town.
Meals
Daily breakfast, lunch, coffee, afternoon tea and supper are included in the fees for Residential students only. Meals for non-Residents are available at itemised prices.
